Hi, I'm Paula and I’m the yarn lover and dyer behind Purple Sprouting.
At Purple Sprouting we create hand dyed yarns in unique colourways that we hope will satisfy your speckled, variegated and semi-solid yarn needs. Yarns that are a pleasure to work with. Yarns that we want to knit with ourselves.
Our yarns are hand dyed in small batches, using acid and fibre reactive dyes, in our dyeing studio located in Pirongia, about 30kms south of Hamilton (Kirikiriroa), New Zealand.
I'm originally from England but have also lived in the Netherlands and Scotland. Upon arriving in New Zealand it was difficult to find yarn that was different and unique and so I began to dabble with dyeing my own yarns using a variety of dyeing methods. As time went by I received more and more requests for my yarn and so I began to sell my yarn at local craft markets and in 2017 attended my first yarn and fibre event and haven't looked back since.
My husband Sam (aka Mr Purple Sprouting) can usually be found at yarn events with me.
Purple Sprouting is also the host to Hamilton's very own yarn festival FibreTron.
